VIGNETTE OF PUPPETRY
Become involved with the roots of puppetry by meeting several kinds of puppets, where you will enjoy short and dynamic performances. "The dramatic game of Punch" by Federico García Lorca will allow the audience to travel four hundred forty years ago, around the same time as William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra. "Punch" is considerate the father of popular Puppetry in Europe, he and his friends will use a medieval carriage to search of what it seems possible: "Love".
Hand Puppets: "The dramatic game of Punch" by Federico García Lorca. Punch was born in Italy near Naples in a town called Acerra. From an ancient book he will invite his lifetime friend "Popsicle" to search for love. Popsicle is looking forward to get marry, but she is still undecided between Arlequin, an enchanting and magical character who is as "poor as a rat" or Punch, a rich and ambitious character with a "notorious hump".
Sock Puppets: "The frog and the princess" a traditional German story retold by Oswaldo Tirano. Have you ever imagined a little slimy and jumping animal asking you for a kiss? This is the story of one of them, a frog whose desperation for a kiss brings him in front of the most beautiful princess.
Marionette: Coming from the simplicity scarf marionette design, it tells the sadness produced by the loss of one person’s love. The transitional time happens when the marionette is crying and lulling but the music transforms its feelings and starts dancing as part of the therapy.
The song is called “Complicación” (complication) is a guaguanco rhythm composed by “aguabella” (beautiful water). This is a latin song with spanish lyrics.
Target population: pre-school, 1st to 5th graders.
Duration: 25 - 40 minutes (puppetry). 20 - 30 min. (workshop).
Stage or room specifications: 7 feet tall by 10 feet width. The show requires an outlet and one small table.
